LA THUILE RESORT, NEWS UPDATEJan 2008Headlines...
1st of December 2007 saw five of the lifts opened up serving four blue and one red pistes. The lift pass being offered for early December was at a special low price just until the resort gets up to speed. The road link to La Rosiere has now been closed to vehicles. 9th of December saw a fine dump of snow which resulted in 130cms at the top and 60cms at the base. 28th of December and the snow level has not changed since the dump on the 9th. The pistse are all fine and groomed up each evening. 37 of the 38 lifts are open. 62 of the 74 slope are open, and 140km of the 150km ski area is available (That's a huge 95%). Lift queue lines are hardly noticeable. Nice powder at the Belvedere. There's 25km of fresh snow prepared Nordic ski area too. LATEST 24th of January so far this month the snow just keeps on coming down. The resort has stabilised at around 2 meters depth at the top and just under a meter at the bottom slopes. Keep your eye on the weather page though.
Older news...
Frequent visitors to La Thuile will remember the dreaded long slow and freezing cold two man chair to the top of Mt. Belvedere. It used to take forever to reach the top and when you got there you were usually frozen solid. Well there's good news folks... It's gone! They've replaced it with a brand new 'magic carpet' four man chair. Oh and by the way, you have to pick it up from the other side of the top of the Forclaz. The first map shows the old lift from the bottom of blue 28. The second map shows the new lift, which is much shorter, much faster, and its on the other side of the mountain. (Also note that the following blue runs have been upgraded to reds: 18, 19 & 21)
OLD MAP NEW MAP
Remember the hike up hill at the top of the Belvedere lift? Well its gone... They have blasted a chunk of the mountain away so that its an easy crossing into France now. (Picture should follow)
